2022 Fresh Crop Arrival
What motivates us to choose the coffees we pick?
There is always the obvious, we strive to find delicious coffees, however our process is more thoughtful than just that.
We love exploring coffee, finding new producers, new processing methods and interesting varietals as our explorations link us to the next origin relationship and the next exciting coffee. We also value the existing relationships we have with our green partners by committing to coffees before they are harvested giving the farmers the confidence of guaranteed sales, known volume plus secured income. This trust, helps us to select a range of coffees that uphold our high standards for quality. Whether you like fruity coffees, comforting chocolatey coffees or experimental lots, the 2022 assortment that we’ve selected is truly sensational. We’re extremely proud to be roasting these coffees and can’t wait to share each origin story with you….
Introducing BURUNDI – Rusekabuye, Akawa Project, Bourbon, Washed
Tastes of: Raisins, Stone Fruits, Butterscotch
The story of triumph over adversity rings true, when you learn the mill’s name Rusekabuye translates to ‘man who hits stone with head and breaks it into one thousand pieces’. Hilare, one of the owners of Rusekabuy was lobbied by producers in the region to build the station after he faced resistance by the only mill owner in the town not to proceed. As the newest mill of 13 established by the Akawa Project, Rusekabuye helps producers escape the cycle of poverty in a sustainable and equitable way, creating fairer remunerations and better living conditions. They do this by helping the producers follow UTZ certification standards, focusing on good agricultural practices, environmental responsibility and social equity. The results of this important work shows in the quality of the coffee harvested that has exceeded our expectations. We’ve really enjoyed roasting this coffee for filter with it’s super-sweet fruit juice quality and smooth creamy mouth feel.
