Marco Fidel López’s coffee from Los Guayacanes farm is a testament to resilience and innovation. Nestled in the town of Las Cochitas, Buesaco, Nariño, this 2.5-hectare farm reaches an altitude of 1,990 meters, surrounded by the strikingly mountainous landscape and five majestic volcanoes. Don Fidel, as he is affectionately known, along with his family, has transformed his farm from poppy cultivation under FARC control to a flourishing coffee haven post-2010s liberation.
Passionate about specialty coffee, Don Fidel employs new “pre-fermentation” techniques, enhancing the coffee’s fruit-driven flavors, complemented by the region’s bright and citric profile. Los Guayacanes also cultivates anise and corn, embodying a sustainable future. Buesaco’s transformation into a renowned coffee-growing region underscores the dedication of farmers like Don Fidel, who are committed to quality and community prosperity through specialty coffee production.
