Introducing; Rwanda – Laurence Mukakabera. Red Bourbon – Washed
Tastes of : Cherry, Apricot Jam, Milk Chocoloate.
Our first Rwandan release from the new harvest is an amazing one from such a small farm. It is exceptionally rare to find a coffee traceable back to a single producer in Rwanda, making Laurence Mukakabera’s Kinyonzo-Gihura farm a true gem. Laurence, a dedicated member of the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative, grows her coffee with meticulous care on her farm, home to 480 trees. This cooperative, with its own dry mill, allows for the individual processing of small lots, ensuring outstanding quality and traceability.
Laurence’s journey is one of resilience. After losing her husband during the Rwandan genocide and fleeing to Zaire, she returned to rebuild her life and farm. Her dedication to coffee farming, combined with her basket-weaving skills, helped her support her family and educate her children. Today, Laurence not only grows coffee but also sustenance crops, maintaining soil health and preventing erosion.
Laurence’s coffee, our first purchase from her, boasts a balanced profile with a delightful texture and jammy sweetness, reflecting her unwavering commitment to quality and community.
